Silver’s Vantage Point Behavioral Health Hospital Testimony

2016-2017

I was in this program several times, and there are various things that occurred throughout my stays that stayed consistent and was never handled.

  • Isolation Patients were placed on isolation where they were not allowed to even look in the direction of peers, participate in group programming, or socialize with anyone. This happened a few times that I witnessed, I believe the punishment was called “the island”, but I am uncertain.
  • Limited phone calls I don’t remember having many phone calls throughout any of my stays, and know for a fact they were not done every day. I am unsure as to whether it was on a schedule or not.
  • Lack of proper supervision They certainly did not check on us every 15 minutes when in our rooms, as my roommate had been able to play a very long game of Truth Or Dare which lead to me being sexually assaulted. Not all rooms had cameras and I had been placed in one of those rooms, leading to an inconclusive case. The resident was given a “hotline”, which is a three strike system before they send you to Piney Ridge. But she was allowed to stay in the facility as the case was ongoing with me.
  • Unit wide sedating As far as I am aware this only occurred in the subacute unit, some days when things got bad with a few patients they would sedate many or all of the patients in a unit, even if they had not done anything to warrant it. This never happened to me but I did witness it.
  • Unwarranted restraint One day I had been restrained simply for asking to be left alone, and sedated for kicking at a door after being locked in. This is all illegal and does not comply with restraint policies.
  • People below the age of 12 programming with the teenagers From ages 9-11 I saw at least 3 different children programming in the adolescent unit during the day, which led to a lot of trouble and more supervision issues for the rest of us.
