Call to Action: Conversion Therapy Survivors or New Hampshire Residents

CALLING CONVERSION THERAPY SURVIVORS -or- NEW HAMPSHIRE RESIDENTS: We need your help!!

New Hampshire bill HB1077, which will repeal the prohibition on conversion therapy for minors has moved through the House Health, Human Services, and Elderly Affairs Committee with an amendment. The amendment removes protection for minors and permits the practice of conversion therapy “if the client requests this.”

The bill now moves on to a full house vote next week (March 14-18). There will be several House session days and we are unsure which specific day this will come up. We should assume that it will be taken up on the first session day, which will likely be Wednesday, March 16.

The Trevor Project in the American Journal of Public Health found that LGBTQ+ youth who underwent conversion therapy were more than twice as likely to report having attempted suicide and more than 2.5 times as likely to report multiple suicide attempts in the past year. By not killing this bill, we risk more LGBTQ+ youth attempting suicide.
