My name is Monica Mira, and I was 14 years old when I was sentenced to complete a program at a Residential Treatment Facility in San Antonio, TX called Hector Garza. This facility already had over 53 state violations with countless reports of physical and sexual abuse, along with documentation of severe injuries and suicides occurring. I experienced horrific abuse at this facility and plummeted 20 ft to the ground, where I shattered 2 vertebrae in my spine and had to have emergency surgery. They forced me to get up and walk with a broken spine, and I didn’t receive any medical attention for over 2 hours.
