Anonymous’ Brooklawn Testimony

2021 – 2022

I never thought I’d be in the industry. I’ve heard other stories and it wasn’t like what I’d experienced. Turns out I was only scratching the tip of the industry’s iceberg. in this facility I watched them restrain kids till they were blue in the face even though they usually locked us in our rooms or forced us to face the wall when that happened, staff “restrained” kids by laying on top of them, and staff outright stating “when I restrain I restrain to hurt.” My facility is a place where DCBS sends kids that are “too out of hand for foster homes” the medical staff never gave kids proper care, I watched a girl crying and screaming almost every day because she tore her ACL and was refused out of facility treatment. she was also accused of throwing her crutches at a kid and had them taken away as a punishment. Being forced to walk on her injury. Our punishment was always to read until we worked a certain amount of points off in our point system as if we were in debt. They refused us haircuts and made kids that came in to dye their hair.

I will never forget the 3 staff that never hurt us and understood us. Thank you, Mr. J, Ms. A, and Ms. N
